My 15 Seconds of Fame!

Woo hoo! RLF just got some press over at Red Pen, Inc., one of my favorite snarky grammar-related blogs (trust me, even though it's about grammar, spelling, and punctuation, it's a riot). Thanks, Grammarphile!

They Don't Make 'em Like They Used To

This is my keyboard on my relatively new computer (purchased in January 2008). I find it totally unreason-able that the markings have come off of 13 keys in such a short period of time. I looked into several options, including getting replacement decals, but that would have cost me about $15.00, and when I priced keyboards at Circuit City when they were going out of business, and all I could find were cordless ones that were about $60.

I tried using a silver metallic pen, and found that it wore off in about 36 hours. So, I gave up for a while. I am a touch-typist and it didn't really impede me. My oldest son, who is in high school, manages to use this computer for homework without issue, too, but last night my youngest son, in 7th grade, who is NOT a touch-typist needed to use the computer for a report. About 30 minutes after he started on the assignment, he complained that he couldn't do the report because he couldn't find the letters. So, necessity, being the mother of invention, I wrote the letters on the keys again and then covered them with Scotch tape. Not pretty, but it works. (My hubby just wandered past as I was writing this post, went out to the garage, and brought me a spare keyboard...an even better solution!)

Fun Giveaway

A dear friend of mine has a blog, Laugh Until Your Cheeks Hurt, that focuses on fun things, products, ideas, jokes, stories, etc. that make her laugh and bring her joy. She frequently has giveaways for the things she loves. I won a great Progresso Broth kit with some much-needed kitchen utensils, for example.

Her current giveaway is for a perpetual calendar that is really clever. Check it out--and be sure to leave a comment to enter the giveaway.
